Goddess of Resilience

She could be under the influence. She could have just finished crying. She could be exhausted, overwhelmed, euphoric, or simply smiling because she made it through another day. What you see in her is yours to decide.

Goddess of Resilience is a celebration of the people who have learned to survive what was never supposed to be easy—and who, somehow, find a way to rise again. She does not represent an idealized goddess or a conventional beauty standard. Her power exists somewhere deeper: in everything she has endured, everything she carries, and everything within her that refuses to stay down.

Her exaggerated features and enormous smile invite the viewer to look beyond appearances and ask what might exist beneath them. Is the smile genuine? Is it protective? Is it joy? Is it defiance? Perhaps it is all of these things at once.

I see myself in her. I have often been perceived as strong and emotionally resilient even during moments when I felt closest to breaking. Resilience is not always graceful, and strength does not always look like having everything together. Sometimes resilience is simply finding whatever helps you get back up, reclaim yourself, and keep moving.

This painting is for the people who are strong because they have to be. For those who have fallen apart and rebuilt themselves. For those who keep showing up. For those who may not always feel powerful, but somehow continue to become more powerful through what they survive.

She doesn’t need to look like a goddess to be one.
